Springfield Professional 1911-A1 45 Auto FBI Contract Model
Built to the exacting standards of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Hostage Rescue Team and tactical operations units, the Springfield Professional 1911-A1 45 Auto FBI Contract Model represents a benchmark in duty-grade semi-automatic pistols. This handgun is manufactured directly from the original FBI contract specifications, retaining the forged slide, forged frame, and hand-fitted barrel that define the Professional series. Each pistol is assembled by Springfield Armory’s Custom Shop, ensuring that every component meets the tolerances required for sustained law enforcement and defensive use. The Springfield Professional 1911-A1 45 Auto FBI Contract Model is chambered in .45 ACP, operates with a 5-inch barrel, and ships with a 7-round magazine and a second 8-round magazine. The finish is a proprietary black Armory Kote applied over a carbon steel slide and frame, offering corrosion resistance without adding reflective glare.
Overview
The Springfield Professional 1911-A1 45 Auto FBI Contract Model was developed in direct response to the FBI’s 2004 solicitation for a high-capacity, single-action 1911 platform suitable for SWAT and protective detail assignments. The pistol includes a forged carbon steel receiver and slide, a stainless steel match-grade barrel, and a lowered and flared ejection port for reliable extraction. The trigger system is a forged aluminum long trigger with a 4.5 to 5.0-pound pull weight, tuned at the Custom Shop. The pistol also features a stainless steel barrel bushing, a beavertail grip safety with a raised pad, and a tactical two-post rear sight with a tritium front sight. The FBI contract required the pistol to function with both 230-grain ball ammunition and jacketed hollow-points, and this model has been verified to meet that specification.
